ALEX MAWAE

My day is not the norm….I get up at 5.30am, just like my sister and get ready for school. I do on line school and my sister is at the High school. Instead of getting on the bus I get ready to go on the ocean…..Home school is not so easy….its a discipline, but I know that if I can self discipline my self then I know I can succeed.

I live on a small island, nothing taller than a coconut tree and a magical one at that….I love Molokai with all my heart…and one day I hope I can help influence other kids in following their dreams, goals and aspirations.

We all have dreams…
Nothing is handed to us on a plate.
If I want this then I have to work and that I know…
but the most important part is to love what I am doing.

Alex Mawae was born on Molokai in 2002 and has a passion for the ocean along with music. Alex started paddling in 2010 and has not looked back since. Alex is a fun and likable kid that is older than his years. He attends online school and helps his Mum out with Kayak and SUP tours as part of his PE activities along with his people skills. Alex has also been playing with Na Kupuna every Friday night at Hotel Molokai with his Ukulele since 2011. He is slowly developing quite a following and the Kupuna keep him grounded.

Alex started out immersed in the Hawaiian immersion program and still maintains his Hawaiian culture along with learning about his British heritage through his Mum, Clare Mawae. Alex has many goals but perhaps his main goal is to maintain his focus, stay grounded and dream for the top with no looking back.

For 2015 and 2016 Alex has some pretty high goals and quite the itinerary for events around Hawaii and the US Mainland. He is hoping once he turns 14 that he can attend some of the events in Europe and some other places around the World.
Alex has been participating with Youth In Motion since he was a baby with his first Learn to swim lessons and to this day he helps and encourages other kids through both the swimming and Stand Up paddling programs.

Travel is not cheap and hence the fundraising drive Youth In Motion is doing. Alex has about 20 events he wants to do for 2015. Many of the events are on Oahu and Maui and to leave Molokai takes some dollars from shipping boards, flying, car rentals, accommodations and entry fees.

Youth In Motion is running a fund raising drive to help him participate at different events and if you would like to pledge towards Alex’s goals you can donate on the Donate button on Alex’s web pages. Your donation is to Youth In Motion, a Hawaii non-profit organization and 100% of the donated pledges will go to Alex Mawae for this campaign.
